Using The Power Of Your Imagination To Follow Through!

One of the biggest challenges people face is following through on goals and activities that produce positive results. This challenge is commonly referred to as Procrastination. People procrastinate for one reason; you get a payoff for it. For this to make sense, you will need to understand the Pain/Pleasure Principle. All behavior is driven by pain and pleasure. Every action you take is designed to help you either avoid pain or gain pleasure.

When you are presented with an activity that you perceive to be potentially painful, your first gut instinct is to avoid it. Immediately after distancing yourself from the “painful” activity, you will experience a sensation of relief. This relief creates pleasure. BAM! You have just created a subconscious neuro-association in your brain. This neuro-association will now link pain to the activity and pleasure to avoiding it. If the activity happens to be dancing around in traffic during rush hour, this would be considered a useful neuro-association. If, however, the activity is finishing a project, exercising, or making prospecting calls, this neuro-association is considered un-useful because it holds you back personally and professionally!

A neuro-association rarely goes away on it’s own. Actually, they tend to get stronger because they are reinforced over time. If you are procrastinating on important activities that you know would produce positive actions, you need to break the old neuro-associations and create new ones. This is how…

Remember, a neuro-association is simply a link your brain has made between an event and a specific emotional state.

Example:

Exercise = Pain

Avoidance of Exercise = Pleasure

Result: Procrastination

In order to break this association, you need to first get clear as to what’s really creating pain in your life and how to increase your pleasure. Putting off exercise keeps you feeling tired, unhealthy, and overweight. Even though sleeping in or catching up on a little TV may seem more pleasurable at the moment, that choice will keep you feeling sluggish and irritable all day!

Now focus on the benefits of exercising. Getting stronger, feeling energized, and looking your best will produce massive amounts of pleasure throughout the day! Your brain takes action on the connections it makes. Thus, you must get your brain to connect pleasure to exercise and pain to not exercising.

Example:

Exercise = Pleasure

Avoidance of Exercise = Pain

Result: Follow Through

Here’s another example:

Prospecting Calls = Pain

Avoidance of Calls = Pleasure

Result: Living Paycheck To Paycheck!

Connecting With Others Via The Telephone = Pleasure

Procrastinating On Making Those Calls = Pain

Result: Creation Of Wealth!

Now that you understand what really creates pleasure and pain in your life, it’s time to create a new neuro-association. This is how…

Close your eyes and imagine you are standing at a crossroads. One path is very familiar to you. It’s the one most traveled. If you choose to travel down this path, it will take you to the same familiar thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and results you’ve been experiencing. But that’s the problem. You don’t want the same results. You want better outcomes! Imagine what would it will cost you mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially if you decide not to take action right now on the activities that lead to your desired results?

Now imagine yourself standing at the crossroads on more. Now you choose the least traveled path. It’s the one that takes courage to travel for you cannot see the outcome, and for many that is just too frightening. However, it is also the most rewarding for those who have the tenacity and guts to find out. On this path, you will take immediate action on those activities that you used to put off. Imagine what you will now gain from taking action right now on these growth-producing activities. Imagine the massive amounts of pleasure you will experience in all areas of your life as a result of these new choices.

As you continue establishing clearly in your conscious and subconscious mind what truly creates pleasure and pain, your mind will assist you in following through. Improve your self-talk and focus on what you want. Your subconscious will help you with the rest.

Until next time… Make Today a Shurr ! Success

Turning Dreams Into Realities

For those of you who are new to the Shurr ! Success family, here is a summary of what I intend to help you achieve over the next 12 months. Every 30 days, you will receive EMPOWERING strategies that are designed to help you generate income and success at every level. I truly want YOU to succeed for one main reason. GIVERS GAIN! It’s been said in many ways. What you put out into the world comes back to you. What you sow, you reap. If you just help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want. I want to freely and willingly help you to be as FABULOUSLY SUCCESSFUL as possible!

Your every success makes me smile and every time you stumble, I will be there with words of encouragement! Always feel free to send me email and let me know the successes and challenges you are facing. Trust me, we all go through them and talking about your fumbles makes them seem less fatal.

Over the next 12 months, I want you to set a really exciting goal for yourself. Set the goal with this in mind. There are no limitations except for the ones we place on ourselves! Most people play it safe by setting low goals and expectations so that if they don’t reach them, its not such a letdown or dissapointment. Rubish! I want you to set a goal for yourself that’s so exciting, if it came true you’d be jumping up and down all week! Think about it. What if God decided that you could have anything you want over the next 12 months and you asked for an extra $20 per week and two days off in December. I’d ask for two weeks off and an extra $2,000 per week! It’s a realistic goal for anyone and it IS possible. It’s also very exciting because with an extra $104,000 in your pocket, you could take a pretty kick butt 2-week vacation!

Besides, which goal would motivate you more and which one will end up strengtheing your character, regardless of whether or not you achieved it? That’s right, the goal that seems just out of reach. Of course, Lao Tse once said, “You must go out on a limb because that’s where the fruit is.” It’s time for you, grasshopper, to reach for what you truly want…

If this goal doesn’t excite you, pick one that does, write it down in detail and include why you want this particular goal. What will it do for you? Does it coincide with your values? Does it support the kind of lifestyle that you wish to have? Does it happen to benefit others in any way? After you write your goal(s) down, start thinking about what it would take to make this happen. Work from the goal backwards. Imagine in your mind that you have already achieved this goal. If you traced your steps backwards, what ACTIONS did you take that led to your ULTIMATE VICTORY? Trace your action steps all the way back to this moment in time when you first set the goal. This, of course, is the most important step of them all! You can’t possibly hit a target if you don’t have one. Once you decide what your destination shall be, the tracing of your actions steps should serve as the MAP to get you there!

Perhaps you’re thinking, “I don’t have time to write down goals. I’m too busy. Besides, I’m not good at goal setting. It’ probably wouldn’t matter anyway…” STOP! Get OUT of your comfort zone and quit holding onto wimpy excuses that are holding you back from BEING the incredible person you are destined to become! How do I know you’re destined to be GREAT? Because you found us and we only attract WINNERS!

A big part of building wealth and being wildly successful is prioritizing your time and setting DREAMS, as well as goals. Goals are merely dreams with a deadline. Dreams are motivating. Goals are practical. Dreams give life purpose. Goals give life direction. Dreams are what you experience once the goals have been met! It’s never the true goal that we aspire to achieve. It’s what we percieve achieving the goal will provide for us (the dream.)

Once you set your dreams and goals, stick to your plan. Spend the majority of your time focusing on the activities that move you closer to your goals and dreams. Most people do not truly understand the difference between what is Important VS Urgent. The only thing that is truly equal when it comes to mankind is that we all get just 24 hours in the day. How you chose to utilize your 24 hours will determine the quality (and probably quantity) of your life. IMPORTANT activities are the actual action steps you must take in order to achieve your dream. These are usually the hardest activities and sometimes the ones you will dread doing.

However, if you pay the price now and force yourself to handle these activities first, everything will seem to get easier and work in your favor. If, however, you keep resisting, everything will just seem to get harder. It’s like getting your car stuck in the mud. Once those tires are sunk in, it doesn’t matter how hard you step on the gas. You are stuck baby! We need to prepare for the mud in advance and that’s what focusing on the important activities will do for you.

URGENT activities are everything else. They are the DISTRACTIONS that SEEM important, but are not. For example, if you are holding a meeting with someone and your cell phone goes off, is your cell phone important or urgent at that moment in time? The answer is urgent. When the phone rings, we are conditioned to answer it. However, unless it’s your spouse calling from the hospital, let the voice mail pick it up. Your face-to-face interactions are ALWAYS more IMPORTANT than the telephone, and believe me, your customer/client will feel the same way!

Other examples of urgent activities are the constant telephone calls you’ll have to make, the filing of paperwork, the running of errands, the gossiping with friends or colleagues by the latte’ machine, deleting of old emails, cigarette breaks, etc. These activities take up too much valuable time and, although they are necessary and important to some degree, they will not move you as QUICKLY to your dream as spending 80% of your time on the important activities will.

So there you have it. The beginnings of an exciting journey for you. Once you finish reading this newsletter, which Stephen Covey would consider as “sharpeing the saw,” take a few minutes and write out your dream/goal for the next 12 months. Where do you want to be one year from now? Who do you wish to become one year from now.

What would you like to have and where would you like to go one year from now? Make it EXCITING, so when you get it, you’ll really want it! Defining your destination and creating the action map for getting there is one of the most IMPORTANT actions steps you can take, so TAKE IT! No excuses. Winners don’t need excusses, they need strategies and this is the first Shurr ! Success strategy I want you to use. In 30 days, I will be sending you the next important step in the process. That means you have 30 days to work on and accomplish the goals we’ve set in this newsletter. Take action on this NOW and let every other action you take be guided by the dreams and goals you’ll set for yourself today!

Until then, go out there and SEIZE THE DAY! Make it happen in YOUR life now and I hope that your day is a Shurr Success!

The Real “Secret” To Attracting Success!

If you haven’t heard of this new video going around the world, it’s called “The Secret.” It describes the universal Law of Attraction. This “law” is important to you because it reinforces that what you think about comes about. This idea is nothing new but I do want you to understand it, since it’s probably one of the most important pieces of information you will ever receive.

First, what you think about the most, you actually begin to draw into your life. Imagine that you are a magnet and everything in the universe is made of metal. Each day, you draw “metal” events, situations, and people into your life. The kind of situation you attract depends upon the kind of thinking you support.

If you focus on positive things that you want, you will draw positive people, situations, and opportunities into your life that will allow you to experience those positive things.

If you focus on the things you don’t want, you will draw those things into your life. People often make the mistake of thinking that they are using the Law of Attraction correctly, when actually they are not. For example, let’s say you are in a bad relationship and you want to manifest the person leaving you alone. So you begin putting all of your mental energy on the following thoughts, “This person now leaves me alone. This person stops calling me and hurting my feelings.” What you are actually putting your attention on is (1) that person, (2) the hurt feelings. And guess what? That person will suddenly start calling you more and causing even more hurt.

This manifesting mistake happens all the time because people constantly focus on what they don’t want. “I am now out of debt.” Will this affirmation attract or repel debt? It will attract it because you are focusing on debt. Instead say, “Money flows into my life from all directions. My bills are paid easily every month and I enjoy having an extra $100 each week.”

If you want to lose weight, focus on becoming thinner and healtheir. If you focus on weight, you’ll gain more. If you focus on becoming thinner and healthier, this will happen. If you secretly believe that you’ll never get this weight off, you won’t. If you begin to focus on the idea that people acheive their ideal weight every day and you are in the process of doing the same, it will happen.

My main goals when working with anyone for the first time is to help them overcome their fear and skeptisism. You have to believe that you are going to be successful. Otherwise, it will seem like everything is a struggle. This happens because a part of you will think it’s supposed to be and thus it becomes so. For example, I grew up with the strong belief that I had to work extremely hard to get what I wanted. Thus, everything I got was a pain in the butt to get… Sound familiar?

Even if you’re still not sure that you’ll make it, you have to fake it till you make it! You also have to do three other important things.

1. You have to take action. You can’t just sit around visualizing what you want. You have to take action to get it. These are the steps.

a) Decide what you would like to manifest or attract into your life.

b) Begin visualizing and imagining yourself ALREADY having it.

c) This will create the feelings and emotions in your mind and body that actually do the “attracting.” It’s not the affirmations that attract what you want, it’s the emotional states that are generated from those affirmations that do the attracting.

d) Take action. The emotions you create will be the fuel you need to stay motivated.

e) Trust your intuition. Your mind will start giving you ideas for how you can actually make your dreams a reality. Trust it and take action on your ideas as quickly as possible.
f) Get in the habit of saying “yes” to new ideas and possibilities. Often, the universe will answer your request to have what you want and it will send people or opportunities your way that may not be obvious to you. Sometimes we don’t see what’s right in front of us because we are expecting something bigger to fall from the sky. If you are manifesting more money and suddenly a friend shows up with a new idea, hear him or her out. Don’t say, “I’m sorry friend, but I don’t have time to hear your idea because I’m busy manifesting more money right now.”

2. You have to stick it out. It can take time for bigger dreams to come true. If you want to make a lot more money or drop 60lbs, it’s going to take some time. Most people simply quit or give up, and often, it’s just before the “big break” was about to occur.

You also need to know that when manifesting something like “becoming a millionaire,” life will first prepare you for that responsibility. Did you know that 80% of lottery winners are back to where they originally started within five years. It’s because they weren’t prepared for the financial responsibility of having that much money. Most self made millionaires have been put through the ringer thousands of times. It’s what shaped their character and allowed them to keep the money after they made it.

The same principle holds true for people who try to get rid of their extra weight through surgeries like the lap band procedure. Because they didn’t “earn” their results, they typically end up gaining all the weight back within a year.

3. You have to continually reinforce what you want. You must create an environment around you that supports your vision. Cut out pictures of images that visually reinforce what you want. Watch movies, read books, and listen to audio programs that support your vision. Hang out with people who want similiar things or who believe it you. Eagles never hang out with turkeys and neither should you!

I’ve pasted a link below to The Secret website. I’ve also included a great link to a video on You Tube from a guy who recommends creating a Vision Statement. It’s really good.

If you have questions or comments, please contact me. I also have a great Hypnosis program for Manifesting Your Goals and Dreams. You can find it at www.TimShurr.com

Thanks so much and I hope that your day is a Shurr ! Success

The Disease Of Unhappiness

Whenever I come across information that’s profound and thought provoking, I share it with all my friends. About two months ago, I read a book entitled, “Leadership and Self Deception: Thinking Outside The Box” by the Arbinger Institute. It helped me to understand myself a little better and I hope it will do the same for you. Here’s a brief synopsis of the book.

Self-deception is a big problem that, unfortunately, you and I both have. It’s a huge problem for organizations, family’s, and marriages because it causes communication breakdown, frustration, and general unhappiness for everyone. Self-deception occurs when you stop treating others as equals who have the same hopes, dreams, worries and fears as you. Instead, you view them as objects, problems, or nuisances who have to be tolerated, pacified, or manipulated. When you act in such a way, you’re not consciously aware that you’re doing so. You truly believe that others are purposefully trying to aggravate, delay, or annoy you, when in fact it is you who is creating the stress.

|Take driving for example. I’ve always thought that when people get behind the wheel, they automatically lose their minds. The higher off the ground they are, the crazier they drive. Unfortunately, I must admit to driving aggressively at times myself. Of course, in the moment I felt justified in my behaviors because “they were driving way too slow! After all, I am a busy person and I’ve got places to go!” In my own mind, these people were not people at all, but obstacles that I had to get around. In my mind, I saw myself as a good driver and it was the other drivers who seemed to have the problem. Why didn’t he just move when he saw me coming… Yet, was I really being a good driver in this instance? No. I was causing the problem and blaming someone else for it. I was self-deceived and instead of realizing it, I began to justify my own actions. When self-deception occurs, you will actually make yourself better than you’re actually behaving and you’ll also make the other person worse than they really are.

People betray their initial feelings of wanting to help another or “do the right thing” all the time. Here are a few more examples. Have you ever let the elevator door close even though you saw someone frantically approaching? Have you ever had the thought that you should fill up the car with gas before you get home so that your spouse didn’t have to do it in the morning, but then decided not to because you were tired and they were perfectly capable of doing it themselves. Have you ever promised your kids that you’d take them to a movie and then backed out at the last minute because something better came along? Or skipped a few pages ahead while reading to your toddler because s/he wouldn’t know the difference anyway…

These are all instances of self-deception and if you were guilty of any of behaviors, it’s okay. We all are. Every time you get the urge or feeling to do something nice for someone, but then you don’t, it puts you “in the box.” Being in the box is another way of saying that you are caught up in self-deception. The major problem with being in the box is that you don’t realize you’re in it! In the box, you truly believe that everyone else has the problem, not you. To others it’s obvious that you’re in the box, though they wouldn’t describe it in those terms. But to you, it couldn’t be farther from the truth. As a result, our unconscious acts of sabotage end up creating much distress at work and home.

So how do you get in the box? Through self-betrayal. Self-betrayal occurs when you get the feeling to do something nice or helpful for another but then choose to ignore it. Like when my newborn cried in the middle of the night and my first instinct was to get up and tend to him. But instead, I pretended that I was asleep and didn’t hear him. At that moment, I entered the box. Once in the box, you will begin to justify why you are right and another person is wrong. You will sacrifice your happiness, and the other persons, because of the self-protecting need to be right. As you increase your own self-justifications, you will also decrease the other persons’ worthiness.

Once I betrayed myself by ignoring my initial gut feeling to get up and help my son, I entered the box. In the box I started getting angry towards my wife because “she obviously didn’t care how hard I worked that day and how many important meetings I had in the morning. I was a very good father and a good husband and she wasn’t treating me that way. In fact, I can’t believe my wife hadn’t gotten up by now. She’s just being lazy and insensitive to my needs.” This last statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. My wife is wonderful to both my son and myself. She was just as exhausted as I was and she might actually have been sleeping. Yet, in the box, I began to elevate myself through reinforcing my own justifications and at the same time, I began devaluating my wife. Now if you look at the situation “outside the box” was I really acting like a good father and husband. No I was not. I was self-deceived.

There is so much more to this and once you really grasp how we unconsciously sabotage ourselves and others, it can empower you to chose a different course of action. So the next time you find yourself blaming someone, being impatient, or getting on your high-horse, you may just be standing in the middle of your own box! By the way, did I mention that you’re being in the box makes others get in theirs…

Setting Achievable Goals

Today you will begin setting ACHIEVABLE GOALS. Goals are simply dreams with a deadline. Every smaller dream you accomplish leads to a larger dream. So dream big AND plan out the steps for getting there.

Goals are necessary BECAUSE they keep you on track. If you want FASTER RESULTS, you need to spend 90% of your time on activities that move you towards the COMPLETION of your specified goals. Most people DO NOT set goals, which is like trying to hit a target that doesn’t exist! They go through the day getting things done, and at the end of the day they are tired, but no FORWARD PROGRESS has been made. Goals give you the TARGET and you can track the progress you’re making. This is why having goals and consistently taking action on them will GET YOU QUICKER RESULTS!

The Following 3 Criteria Will Help You Create Achievable Goals…

1. Make sure they are, in fact, ACHIEVABLE. Sometimes people set goals that are too high to begin with. Self-prescribed “Perfectionists” do this. They pretend to have high standards, but they actually are afraid of rejection so they find safety in not taking any action. It’s good to set goals that force you to stretch yourself. My philosophy is to shoot for the moon and even if you miss, you’ll still be among the stars. Besides, why set mediocre goals in the first place. If you do achieve them, you won’t care! Instead, set a goal that if you were to achieve it this year, it would have you jumping for joy!

2. Make them MEASURABLE. Stating that your goals are to be rich, lose weight, or have better relationships is too vague. You’re brain needs SPECIFIC goals and action steps before it will act upon your requests. “This year I will make $80,000. I will do so by making 10 calls per day, scheduling 3-4 meetings per week, and I’ll listen to at least one new audio program for improving my sales each month.”

Now you’ve set a specific monetary goal for your Subconscious Mind to manifest AND you have smaller action steps (goals) that you can act upon. We are not always in control of the money we earn, however, you are ALWAYS in control of the actions you take! Taking consistent action on these action steps, and ensuring that they always point you in the direction of your ultimate goals, will provide you the greatest chance of succeeding.

3. Know why you WANT to achieve the goal to begin with. Knowing why you want more money, greater health, and better relationships will help you to STAY MOTIVATED. I may not be that excited about making 10 calls today. However, I would be excited about making 10 new friends and having the opportunity to serve people in a way that makes their lives better. As a BONUS, they will actually pay me to provide this VALUE. With the money I earn, I can take my family to Disney World over Christmas break. Thinking about making friends, providing value, and treating my family to some Mickey Mouse is all the motivation I need to make those 10 easy calls. What motivates you?

The Wisdom of KFC…

K = Know what you want.

F = Find out what kind of results you get from taking specific actions.

C = Change your approach until you get the desired results.

As I’ve already mentioned, you should decide what you want, when you want it by (it keeps the pressure on), what it will take to get it, and why you want it in the first place. Then list a few action steps you can immediately to get started and then GO FOR IT! Tony Robbins says, “You should never leave the site of

a new goal without taking some kind of action towards it immediately.” In this way you build INSTANT MOMENTUM!

Once you know what you want, take action on it and see what kind of results you get. If after a couple of weeks, you haven’t got the kind of results you want, change up your approach and try again. The idea is to frequently TEST AND MEASURE your results. No use taking the same road over and over if it keeps leading you to a dead end. Instead, back up, plan out an alternate route, and begin driving in a new direction towards the same destination. Those who are SUCCESSFUL are not afraid of getting lost, and yes men, they do FEEL CONFIDENT in asking for directions!

The Wheel of Life

As we close in on the holiday season, I wonder how many people are truly happy and fulfilled. Are you living your ideal life? When you wake up are you excited about the day ahead? Do you feel like the captain of your destiny or a passenger? Did you accomplish the goals you set for 2006? Are you looking forward to 2007? I ask these questions because it seems that many of us are drifting through life instead of steering. We set mediocre goals and have a broad sense of where we’d like to be, but we don’t have a solid action plan for getting there or the motivation to do so.

I got on this tangent because as soon as Halloween ended Christmas began. On November 1st I started hearing Christmas songs on the radio and saw Christmas trees up and decorated in the stores. Christmas wasn’t for 2 months and yet everyone wants to get into the spirit because it gives us something to look forward to.

The trick is to continually create things to look forward to so that you’re upbeat, motivated, and excited most of the time. To accomplish this, decide what areas of your life you wish to improve upon and then chart a course for action. Make it an adventure and think of how good your life is becoming because you’re taking positive action in this way. The following is an excellent method for assessing where you’re at and clarifying what your next step(s) should be.

Take out a piece of paper and draw a circle that’s about the size of your fist. Then make 8 sections or slices so that it looks like a pie (chart). In each section, write down the following categories:

Physical Health (I want to lose weight, stop smoking, increase energy, exercise, eat better, etc.)

Personal Development (Read books, take classes/courses, attend seminars, listen to audio programs, get coaching, review online newsletters, etc.)

Relationships (How satisfied are you with your intimate relationship(s), family, friends?)

Career (Do you like what you do? Are you growing? Are you investing time and energy into professional development?)

Fun and Recreation (Are you devoting time into hobbies and fun activities? How much personal time do you have?)

Physical Environment (How satisfied are you with the surrounding environment? Your office, car, home? Is it organized? Does your office need a paint job? How’s the layout?)

Money (How satisfied are you with your present income? Are you investing? Do you have money in the bank to fall back on?)

Emotional Health (Are you happy? Do you feel secure? Are you optimistic? How is your spiritual connection? How’s your self-talk? Do you love yourself? Do you battle with an inner critic?)

Now give each of these areas of your life a rating. Out of 100%, how satisfied are you with each area. For example, you might put a lot of energy into your Career and feel satisfied with it, so you rate it at 85%. However, because of this your Physical Health has been neglected, so you rate it at 40%.

As you rate each of these categories, you’ll discover what areas are in need of attention. (Keep in mind your Wheel Of Life will never have 100% in every category and that’s okay.) Focus attention on the areas that have lower scores and choose two categories to put more energy into. Many professionals I coach want to make more money and develop their careers. When I suggest that they start exercising, making their relationships better, or create more personal time, they sometimes don’t see the connection. To be truly successful, you must strive for balance in life.

The more balanced your “wheel” is, the happier you’ll be. Plus, the more fun you have and the stronger your relationships are, the more money you will make. You will also be happier, more successful, and more content. In the coming newsletters, I’ll help you discover your values and set up a plan for meeting them through balancing your life. If you have questions about this exercise or need some private coaching to balance your “wheel,” email or call me. tim@timshurr.com (317) 579-7500

Power Words & Phrases

In my profession, I do a lot of listening. In fact, because of my hypnosis background, I’ve learned to pay particular attention to the types of words and language patterns people use. It’s vitally important to be aware of what and how you say things to yourself. There’s a part of your brain, the Subconscious, which monitors your daily self-talk. If it hears a consistent pattern, it will act upon it. For example, what do you think would happen if you continually repeated to yourself, “I never remember names. I never remember names. I never remember names.” That’s right! You would probably never remember anybody’s name. Your subconscious would find a way to distract you at the moment the person you’re meeting speaks his/her name. As a result, the name gets lost, which reinforces the belief you have. I used to choose this problem, but I changed it through changing my self-talk. Now I repeat to myself, “I easily remember names. I am amazingly good at recalling names. My mind is like a steel trap when it comes to remembering names!” Do I now remember the names of every single person I meet? No. But I now remember the names of MOST people and my memory recall has improved by at least 80%!

|In addition to stating what you want to believe to yourself repeatedly on a daily basis, it’s also important to use EMPOWERING WORDS. A good friend of mine gave me a book by Tony Robbins entitled, “A Note From A Friend.” It’s a great book and I highly recommend it. In this book, Tony suggests that we transform our language so that it becomes more powerful and uplifting. Here are some examples. When you say how busy you are, it elicits one kind of emotional state, usually a feeling of stress or being overwhelmed. Instead, you can now say, “I am IN DEMAND!” This elicits a more empowering state. In fact, just writing these words made me smile.

Here are some examples I use regularly:

Tired = Conserving Energy

Anxious = Energized!

I’m feeling good = I feel Fantastic!

Overwhelmed = Surrounded by Opportunity

Rushed = State of Acceleration

Pissed Off = Peeved (try saying that without smiling)

Many, many years ago I took a summer job selling vacuum cleaners. Of course, at that time they were “Home Cleaning Systems.” My manager, Carl, would always greet me in the morning by saying, “How ya feeling Tim?” Whatever my response was, he’d come back with, “No! You’re feeling F A N T A S T I C!”

After a week of this, it began to stick. To this day, when someone asks me how I’m feeling, I think of Carl’s energy and enthusiasm. I’ve gotten away from saying FANTASTIC, so I’m going to start using it again today! You should join me. Commit to it for one week and you’ll find that you actually do feel FANTASTIC! We both will. It will be SENSATIONAL!

Anchoring Yourself for Success!

Today you will learn how to create emotional Anchors that allow you to experience specific feeling states on demand. Imagine being able to immediately feel more confident, motivated, calm, focused, energized, and/or creative whenever you wish. Getting yourself into the right “state of mind” is easy when you have the feelings to support it. For example, you may know all the right things to say during your upcoming presentation, but without that feeling of confidence or enthusiasm, the message may not be projected as well. Or maybe you’ve been procrastinating on making that next step towards elevating your career because of fear. Unleashing powerful emotional states like motivation, focus and creativity will give you the boost you need to move ahead.

An Anchor is a term used in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to describe how specific emotional states are linked or associated to certain visual, auditory, or kinesthetic stimuli. For example, hearing a particular song on the radio may elicit feelings of joy or sadness, depending on the association that was made. Smelling pine makes many people in the Midwest think of Christmas time

When you’re partner gets that certain look in his or her eye, it may either trigger feelings of excitement or anger, depending on the meaning that’s been attached. We are full of anchors. Sometimes people refer to them as “hot buttons.” I could probably get you to feel all kinds of emotions, depending on what buttons I “push.” Yet, instead of reacting automatically to the stimuli that trigger you, wouldn’t it be refreshing to instill a few buttons that immediately make you feel Empowered? Sure it would, so let’s do so now!

You Can Easily Create Anchors By Engaging In 4 Simple Steps:

1. Stimulate the emotion you want to anchor (experience on demand).

2. Increase the emotional state so that it’s at a peak.

3. While feeling the emotional state as intensely as you can, simultaneously make a gesture, sound, bodily movement, or mental image.

4. Relax, take a deep breath, and repeat this process 5-6 times and then test your anchor. Make the specific gesture, sound, bodily movement, or mental image and notice if the desired emotional state is triggered within you. If it is felt, good job! If not, go back through the steps 5-6 more times and then test it again.

If you are having trouble getting the emotional state to come up when you trigger it through your anchor, it may be the following.

1. Usually you haven’t experienced the desired emotional state at a strong enough level for the anchor to stick. You want to anchor the feeling at its peak, when it is most strongly felt. To initially build the feeling up within you, think of the last time you really felt that way. For instance, if you want to feel more confidence, think of the last time you really felt confident.

What did you see when you really felt confident? Do you picture your son’s smile or a crowd of people applauding you? What were you hearing? Did you hear others complimenting you or was it the voice in your head? What kinds of statements make you feel most confident when you hear them? How were you holding your body when you felt really confident? Were you standing tall, chin up, shoulders back, and a gleam in your eye. And where did you feel that confident feeling? In your head, shoulders, chest, stomach, or all over?

2. You may need a more dramatic or unique anchor. Many people unconsciously anchor feelings of relaxation to taking a deep breath. But perhaps that is not enough to get you relaxed when life turns up the heat. Maybe you need to picture a tropical beach, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, say “I AM in Control!” If you want to create unstoppable energy, you may need to be more dramatic. Tony Robbins gets himself into state by jumping in the air, throwing his arms around, and repeating a chant. It’s not pretty, but it sure works!

3. Make sure that you use the exact same Anchor every time. If you say a particular word, make sure to use the same volume, speed, tone and pitch each time you “set” the anchor. If you slap yourself on the thigh, make sure to hit the same spot each time.

With repeated practice, you can create Anchors that last a lifetime. I anchored a feeling of enthusiasm and certainty years ago, and to this day, whenever I take the stage at a Shurr ! Success seminar, I fire off that anchor to get into state-and it works every time!

So imagine the possibilities before you. You can anchor and trigger feelings of love and wanting to serve just before picking up the phone to prospect. You can stimulate feelings of charisma and magnetism just prior to entering a networking function. You can feel relaxed and in control as you ask for the close. And you can feel playful and fun with your kids, even after the longest of days…

If you want to learn more about Anchors, I highly recommend getting my powerful Audio Course entitled, The Courage To Succeed. This program is full of Anchors, both Conscious and Subconscious. Which means that I teach you all about anchors and I lead you through several Anchor-Creating exercises. However, I also create within you a series of powerful, confidence-creating anchors at a Subconscious level. One way or another, after listening to this amazing training course, you will be anchored for success! A description is listed below.

If you found this article is very useful, please forward it to a couple of your friends. They will appreciate you and so will I!

Have a fun day and I hope you continue to make your life a Shurr Success!

Lesson’s From The Road Less Traveled…

This year has been quite busy for me. My lectures have been IN DEMAND (Refer to my article on “Power Words) and I’ve been enjoying training hypnotists from all over the country. This year is sure to be full of adventures and I plan on sharing with YOU all the insights, strategies, and tools I attain for taking your life to a whole new level of excellence!

To really make your life all it can be, you’re going to need a steady stream of support and advice that you make sure to APPLY as quickly as you get it! Having all the information and wisdom in the world is absolutely useless if you do not DO SOMETHING with it! A great affirmation is “I am a genius and I immediately apply the wisdom I attain.”

You cannot THINK your way out of situations. You have to TAKE ACTION if you want your life to BECOME BETTER. I used to place giant paper bags over my clients’ heads and tell them to think their way out. It’s impossible. They’d just sit there. You have to BUST THROUGH that bag. The only way out is through action!

Thus, I’m going to increase the number of newsletters I provide you for the next six months. Every two weeks I’ll be sending you quick tips and growth inspiring information that will help to enhance your mental, emotional, and financial maturity. I keep the articles short because your life is busy. Yet, the information is precise so make sure you read these articles! If (When) I receive feedback from you that this is useful and appreciated, I will continue to do so…

TODAY’S LESSON

Your attitude is everything! A positive attitude consists of a passionate belief that you can succeed backed by determination and persistent action! Again, you can’t just believe you can succeed. Your actions have to back it up! Positive actions create strong self-esteem! Many people have low self-esteem because their choices in life are lousy. They believe it’s the other way around, which is not accurate. Your circumstances can influence how you feel but they should not determine it! Winners determine how they will think, feel, and behave regardless of their situations or environments!

That would happen if you began to believe that YOU ARE WAY MORE capable than you might ever believe? Laura Schultz, a 62-year old grandmother, watched her Buick roll down the driveway and stop on top of her grandson’s arm. Without thinking, she hurried over to the back of the Buick, picked it up off the ground, and freed the little boy! After many attempts to be interviewed, she finally granted an interview from Jack Canfield. Jack said she didn’t like to talk about the event because it challenged her beliefs about what she could and could not do. “If I was able to do this, which I didn’t think I could, what else could I have done with my life? Have I wasted it by holding back?”

How much better would your life be if you decided RIGHT NOW to redirect your attention away from what isn’t working or what hasn’t worked in the past, onto what you want and what could be possible? An example of someone who possesses a GREAT attitude that you should model is Ty Cobb.

Ty was (is) an amazing baseball player. His lifetime batting average was 367! When a reporter asked Ty what he thought his average would be if he played today, Ty replied, “Probably 295 to 300.” The reporter asked, “Is that because of the traveling, the night games, the artificial turf, or the new slider pitch?” “No,” said Ty Cobb. “It’s because I am 70.” Now that is self-belief!

Some people hold themselves back because they don’t have a college degree. Here’s some fascinating statistics that prove that attitude is more important than knowledge, training, or schooling. 20% of America’s millionaires never stepped foot into college and 21 out of the 201 Americans listed as Billionaires never got their college diplomas. Two never even finished high school! It’s not about talent or academia. It’s about having guts to go against the flow and charge forward towards your dreams with a blind faith and reckless abandon.

Two of my favorite quotes are “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll still be among the stars.” “I’d rather wear out than rust out!” Can I have an AMEN!

Today’s point: Figure out what you want and start moving towards it TODAY! Start out small if you wish, but GET GOING! Your dreams are waiting!

Conditioning Your Mind For Success

Today you are going to receive a crash course in how to condition your mind for success! This is probably the most important information I’ve learned over the last 17 years of studying the human psyche. Having this wisdom will enable you to break free from unuseful (negative) programming from the past and triumph over current obstacles that stop you from having it all! Once you understand how your brain functions, you can use it to accomplish anything!

Suppose your mind has two parts, the Conscious and Subconscious. Your Conscious Mind has two functions. 1) It receives stimuli (information) from the outside world through your 5 senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell) and delivers it to your Subconscious to be processed. 2) It controls willpower. Willpower is your ability to choose how to behave or respond to information or situations that are presented to you. For most, willpower lasts about 2-3 minutes and then we revert back to previously conditioned responses from the past. I meet people every day who complain of not having enough willpower to achieve their goals. Actually, I find they have plenty of willpower, its just that their Subconscious mind is programmed for a different agenda!|Your Subconscious Mind has one primary role and that is to make things happen! It’s the reality-creating part of your brain and it doesn’t care what’s good or bad, right or wrong. Think of smoking, for instance. Most smokers realize that cigarettes are an expensive, prolonged suicide. However, their Subconscious has been programmed to believe that sucking on a cigarette will make them instantly feel better. Regardless of whether this is true is irrelevant. If the Subconscious believes its true, it will be for you!

The Subconscious is governed by a set of beliefs, neuro-associations, and “life rules” that it has accumulated from childhood. Some of these “rules” are useful and some are not. If you are having difficulty achieving specific goals, it may be partly because of some faulty or outdated beliefs that sabotage your efforts. For example, if you believe that charging for your services somehow diminishes your efforts, you’ll find it hard to charge what you’re really worth. I personally struggled with this. Even though I knew my services provided outstanding results, I continually undercut my fees. Because I worked so hard but had little money to show for it, my frustrating beliefs about money got reinforced. It was a very ugly cycle! So I changed it. This is how…

There are three things I recommend you do immediately.

1. Incorporate Mindful Thinking

2. Modify Your Physiology

3. Incorporate Visualization and Feelization

Incorporate Mindful Thinking. Researchers suggest that we have approximately 60,000 thoughts per day and roughly half of those are the same thoughts. The greatest secret ever told was that the quality of your life would be determined by the quality of your thinking. Of those 60,000 thoughts, how many are focused on creating the life that you desire? How many are focused on the solutions you’ll need to find in order to be successful? How many are used to motivate, inspire, support, comfort, and empower you? Now how many of those thoughts are focused on the exact opposite of this?

People spend too much time thinking about what they don’t want, what they don’t have, and all the reasons for why this is so! You will always walk in the direction you are faced and you will always face the direction that your thoughts point you in. Thus, you must mindfully, purposefully, make sure that you focus on what you want and on how to get it! When your Subconscious Mind starts receiving 30,000 thoughts per day on how you would like your life to be, it will implement powerful strategies for making this happen! Once your brain locks onto something it wants, it will find a way to get it. Just think of the last craving you had!

Modify your physiology. This means getting your energy levels and emotional states ready for positive action. Human behavior is driven by emotion. Emotions are driven by our thoughts and physiology. Once you’ve gotten your thinking up to par, it’s time to crank up your emotions. Associating positive, exciting, passionate emotions to result-producing behaviors will ensure success! When you feel good about taking action on activities that produce successful results, you’ll continue to take action. This continued, persistent action will lead to the ultimate success you desire!

Incorporate Visualization and Feelization. Once your Conscious Mind is filled with useful, goal-oriented self-talk, and you feel the emotions that get you to take action, the final step is to cement the final destination into your Subconscious. Visualizing is the art of mentally imagining yourself successful as if you have already achieved your goal. Feelization is the act of visualizing yourself in such vivid detail that your body produces the exact same emotions you would experience if this goal were actually attained. In doing so, you associate massive amounts of pleasure to achieving this goal, which will drive your brain and nervous system to do just that!

Here’s your assignment for the next 30 days!

1) Immediately become more aware of your self-talk. If you taped your thoughts all day long, would they move you closer or farther away from your goals and dreams? Incorporate mindful thinking right away. If negative or unuseful thoughts pop into mind, replace them with more supportive, useful self-statements. If you have trouble coming up with these, pretend that a friend just said the exact same negative thought to him/herself. What would you say to make your friend feel better? Now say that to yourself!

2) When you start feeling upset, angry, frustrated, or scared, move your body around energetically. The way to create positive emotion is through motion. Jump up and down. Throw your arms up in the air! Find a mirror and repeatedly flash the biggest, cheesiest smile you can to yourself. (If this sounds silly to you, you’re right. Its much smarter to just sit around feeling sorry for yourself.) This crazy behavior will get you laughing, it will get you breathing deeper, and it will get you feeling better so that you can get back in the game and kick a__!

3) Start daydreaming more about how successful you now are. IMAGINE what’s its like to have all that money, all that free time, all those adventures. Picture yourself paying off bills, taking friends on a cruise, buying a fancy sports car, or donating large sums of money to your favorite charity! What does all of this do for you? How does it make you feel? Get in touch with the feelings and emotions that living a life like this presents. The more excited you feel when visualizing your success, the more effective it will be!

4) Finally, have fun with this stuff! And remember, it’s all in your head!

Until next time, I hope that your day is a Shurr Success!
